சங்கீதம் 90:1 - ஆண்டவரே, தேவரீர் தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக எங்களுக்கு அடைக்கலமானவர்.
Though the tamil translation has the meaning “refuge“, with reference to the English translation, it is understood to be “உறைவிடம்/ தங்குமிடம்“(dwelling place).
The word ‘dwelling‘ & ‘habitation‘ is present 77 times in the NKJV bible version.
What is the difference between a hiding place and a dwelling place?
—> A hiding place is generally a temporary shelter, a place to hide in the times or trouble(especially for reasons of being safe).
Whereas, a dwelling place is one where a person stays or dwells everyday. It gives both safety as well as continual shelter everyday.

We know a very familiar song ‘You are my hiding place’. The Psalmist says this as an affirmative statement & as a word of confidence to encourage himself in the Lord in times of His trouble. This also portrays God in His Official Capacity(like when God is in His Power at His Office). Eg: Like a child going up to his dad in his office and asking for something & the dad does it for the sake of keeping his child happy. The same task could be done using a bell boy at the office too instead of the father doing it by himself.
But when Moses says “You have been our dwelling place“, God is not in His office, rather He is at home, with his children, because a dwelling place is where a person resides or stays.
This is more of experiencing God Himself rather than His power.
DON’T SEEK GOD COS OF HIS CAPABILITY, NOR SEEK HIM DUE TO HIS ABILITY; BUT ALWAYS REALISE YOUR FRAILTY AND SEEK HIM, TO MAKE IT YOUR HABITUALITY.
What are the advantages of making God as your dwelling place?
1) You are in God
2) You are always in the Presence of God(with God)
3) It not only gives you a shelter when needed(in times of trouble), but also gives you a place of living & gives all the provisions.
Another significance of having God as your dwelling place is:
—> A hiding place gives protection specially for an individual.
—> While a dwelling place, gives protection & provision not just you but for your family also.
The 3 bare necessities of life are : Food, clothing & shelter. God has told us not to worry about the first 2 necessities(Mat 6: 31,32). The other necessity is ‘shelter‘. When we make God as our dwelling place, God Himself becomes our bare necessity. Isn’t that great? :)
Don’t be a visitor to the presence of God, rather be a dweller அவர் உன் உறைவிடமானதால் நீ உறைந்து போகமாட்டாய் (if God becomes your shelter you will not freeze in the cold weathers) ;)
If you make God as your dwelling place, you have a place to rest. You will be at rest. Your heart and mind will be in a state of rest & your life will be in a state of uniform motion. Sounds familiar? :P Newton’s 1st law of motion.
Explanation : Your heart and mind will be at rest without being disturbed by external circumstances, and your life will keep moving at the right pace constantly without sudden jerks & not going about in circles rather going in a ‘linear path‘ (a straight path, நேர்வழி).
